Parents Information 1700 8th Street South Brookings, SD 57006 (605) 692-6796 www.stmbrookings.org Parents Information Goal The goal of the St. Thomas More Preschool is to provide a positive experience for your son or daughter as your child’s personal formation continues and the formal education process begins. Eligibility Age - Children must be at least three years old. Skills - Children must be able to interact in a group setting without endangering others in the setting. Registration Fee To assure a place for your child at the St. Thomas More Preschool, a $25.00 non-refundable fee must be included with the registration. The fee will be deducted from the first month of tuition. Tuition The tuition for the 2007-2008 school year is: $70.00/month for two day sessions $80.00/month for three day sessions Session Times Mon./Wed./Fri. 8:30 - 11:15 a.m. (older four and Or five year olds) 12:45 - 3:30 p.m.
Tues./Thurs. AM 8:30 - 11:15 a.m. (recommended for children turning 4 in March-Aug 2008) Tues./Thurs. PM 12:45 - 3:30 p.m. (recommended for children turning 4 in Sept. 07-Feb. 08)
Lessons At Preschool What will your child do at Preschool? He or she will focus on developing these skills: Getting Along with others - Sharing with others - toys, games, and experiences. Exploring - new things and ideas. Expressing - himself or herself with words, clay, paint, crayons, scissors, music, etc. Planning - what will we do next? Listening - to stories and directions. Looking at Books - and learning how to use them. Spotting Differences - in colors, sizes, shapes, sounds. Caring for Self and Belongings - tending to restroom needs, hanging up clothes, returning/picking up toys. Playing Outdoors - learning to take turns and follow rules. Eating with others - learning good manners. Thinking of others - gifts for parents, kindness to others. Protecting Self - and know whom to turn to for protection. Approximate Daily Schedule 8:30 AM / 12:45 PM Greeting/Welcome 8:45 - 9:00 AM / 1:00 - 1:15 PM Morning Circle - A time to sing songs and get ready for our day. 9:00 - 9:45 AM / 1:15 - 2:00 PM Free Choice - Children engage in a variety of developmentally appropriate activities. (Ex: Arts, Crafts, Science, Discovery, Blocks, Manipulative Toys, Dramatic Play, Literacy, Math, Etc.) 9:45 - 9:55 AM / 2:00 -2:10 PM Clean Up - Children and teachers work together to pick up materials and equipment. 9:55 - 10:15 AM / 2:10 - 2:30 PM Music Time (every other week) - A time for the children to enhance their skills through musical activities. Wash Up and Snack Time - Wash hands, children and teachers enjoy snack, practicing their table manners and other social skills. 10:20 - 10:35 AM / 2:35 - 2:50 PM Group Time - Weekly story, Show and tell, songs, finger plays, prepare for outdoor play. 10:35 - 11:15 AM / 2:50 - 3:30 PM Outdoor/Gross Motor Play - Large group games, ball games, and other movement/large motor activities.
Special Activities Fabulous Friend. Each child will have one week over the course of the year to be the Fabulous Friend. The Fabulous Friend will have a chance to bring show and tell to school, and will make a book to remember their week as the Fabulous Friend. Snacks Families are asked to provide snacks. Snacks included on calendar have an emphasis on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and dairy products with a minimal amount of sugar. Preschool Calendar The St. Thomas More Preschool will follow the same calendar as the Brookings Public School System. Watch KELOLAND TV (Channel 11) or listen to KBRK AM/B-93.7 FM for weather related school session cancellations. The full day cancellations will be the same as announced by Brookings Public School System. If the Brookings Public Schools are announced as 1 or 2 hours late, the morning classes are cancelled and the afternoon classes will resume as scheduled. In the case of early dismissal, afternoon classes will be cancelled.
